Tips for Healthy Lips

During the winter months, my lips suffer A LOT. Here are a few tips I have picked up to protect your lips from getting chapped:

  • Apply lip balm before you wash your face. Sometimes your face wash can actually dry out your lips due to salicylic acid which messes with the pH balance of your skin.

  • Use a moisturising oil which contains vitamin E- such as Almond Oil

  • You can actually cut up a slice of cucumber and sit it onto your lips for 10 minutes or so. It will feel really cooling and will moisturise your lips.

  • Exfoliate your lips! You can make a really simple scrub using sugar and honey- then rub it in circular motions onto your lips. Be gentle!

  • Avoid the temptation to lick your lips. This can dry out your lips significantly due to the acids contained within your mouth.

  • Use a lip balm which contains a moisturising butter such as shea butter. It will feel so good and leaves a slight shine to your lips too.

  • If you really want to wear matte lipsticks- apply a balm underneath!

  • Use Vaseline- cheap and cheerful, and super effective as a barrier against the cold/ dry air.

  • Cover your mouth with your scarf when walking in cold weather. Wind is one of the worse causes of chapped lips.

If none of these tips help, go to a dermatologist as you may be suffering from an allergic reaction.
