What is Art?- The Blog Tag

theblogtag

This week’s Blog Tag is Art, and I have a hell of a post for you! If you aren’t already taing part in the blog tag, visit them here!

Art can be defined (by me) as:

Art is anything that provokes thoughts or an emotional response. Something that makes people think differently or feel something profound.

So, What is Art to me?

I have always been a creative person, whether it be painting, writing or making music. Here is a list of things that I personally consider to be art:

  • Painting, Sketching, Drawing etc…
  • Sculpture
  • Music (Writing or Playing)
  • Writing (Novels, Blogs, Plays, Poems)
  • Acting
  • Makeup/Hair/Nail Artistry

I can’t think of any more off the top of my head, but basically anything can be art if your passionate about it. Art for me is an expression of personality and emotion, and comes in too many forms to count.

My Encounter with Art

In my life I have been actively involved in Art. Spending a lot of my free time painting, drawing, writing songs, playing the piano and guitar, writing stories, clay modelling, making jewelry… you name it, I’ve probably done it.

Because it’s art week,I thought what better way to celebrate it than show you some of my own art! First of all, paintings and drawings…

This is a painting of me and my Boyfriend from our college prom when we were 18, from this original photo…

This is a painting I started in 2012…and still haven’t got round to finishing! It’s a painting of one of my dogs, Archie. Here he is:

Secondly, singing. The quality is very bad on these videos, but the sound is okay. Singing is my absolute passion, if i had to choose one single thing to do for the rest of my life singing would be it. I’ve never shared my music on my blog, so please be nice! 🙂

First of all, a song I wrote and performed in a school concert at the age of 15:

Secondly, a video of me singing Christina Aguilera- You lost me (acapella) *don’t ask about the flailing arms, I don’t know either!*

And lastly, another concert performance, this time at the age of 16:

I do plan on recording something new fairly soon, but we’ll see!

Anyhow, enough of the shameless self-promotion…

What’s my Favourite Artform?

As I said above, if i had to choose one thing to do for my whole life- it has to be singing and song writing. I relied on it heavily in my teens, and it got me through a fair few rough patches. Singing is my true love (apart from my boyfriend, of course!)

Classic vs. Modern

The Blog Tag- Art Questions

1.Are you an Art Lover, if so which artform?

As I have already said, I dabble in most artforms, but my favourite is music 🙂

2.Share one of your works of art with us, if you don’t mind.

Merida from Brave

3.Share your favorite piece of art with us. (Your own, or someone else’s)

I honestly don’t have a favourite!

However I do love Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh

Please follow the following links, and tell us what your first reaction/feeling/thought was when viewing the picture (You can write a tiny backstory if you want to):

This makes me think of standing outside watching a fireworks display, cuddled up in a big scarf and hat.

5.https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3355/3598339324_a23bdd88b8_z.jpg?zz=1

This makes me think of seclusion.

This kinda freaks me out… maybe a bit ‘Phantom of the Opera’

What is your favorite Art movement?

In terms of painting, I love impressionism. Joseph Turner is one of my favourite artists.

Do you feel like art should evoke emotions? If so, do you think it should be used for positive (Inspiring, Memories, Light-Hearted) or negative emotions (Bring awareness of social issues, bring to light injustice etc.) ?

Absolutely, and i feel that any emotion can be projected, art is about expression- good or bad.

Would you ever comment on political/social affairs via your art? If you have, please share the artwork with us.

I personally don’t ever do this.

Do you consider yourself to be an artist?

I like to think so. In my mind, everyone is an artist in their own way.

Name everything you consider to be art.

*at the top of this post*

Make a mess, even if it’s just on an A4 paper, on paint or a table you work on, take a photo and show us your beautiful mess.
