Summer Glow Makeup

makeup

I’ve spent years watching Makeup Tutorials and seeing so many different techniques. I have also tried a lot of techniques on myself, some that worked and some that didn’t. I feel like now I am finally settling into my own style, so I want ti share with you today my Summer Glow makeup- which I am wearing most days at the moment to give my skin that glowing, dewy look without being too dramatic.

As a redhead, and being someone with fair skin, I find it hard to get that balance of bronzer and contour right. Either I won’t put enough on and I look like a ghost, or I use to much and my face looks muddy. What I have found works best for me is using very little pigment- as in literally tapping the pigment with brush and going in. This way I can start with a little and build it up if I need to. Here I am using a lot of shimmery products, to give my face a healthy glow without everyone who looks at me needing sunglasses.

So, let’s get started…

1.First up I’m priming my face with No7 Colour Calming Primer (here), you only need a small amount of this as it goes a long way. Place it in all of your red areas and rub in until transparent.

2. Next up, taking a damp beauty sponge (here) I am using my No7 Beautifully Matte Foundation (here) in the colour ‘Calico’ *I recommend this foundation highly to anyone who has fair skin like I do. Squeeze a little bit onto the sponger and begin to buff it all over the skin, making sure to blend down the neck too.

3. After the foundation is on, I am taking my Maybelline Dark Circle eraser (here) in the colour ‘Fair’ and applying it under my eyes, and on my chin as I have a few bits of texture there. Again I am using the sponge to lightly blend this in. When working this concealer under the eyes, don’t rub it in, instead dab it in lightly.

4. Now I am going to set the entire face using my No7 Perfect Pressed Powder- Translucent (here) using a large powder brush. It is important to set the entire face before using any contour or bronzer as it provides a smooth base to help the products blend easier.

5. Now that we have out perfect skin base, it’s time to start defining our features. Here I am taking my Barry M Chisel Cheeks Palette (here), and using this middle brown to contour under my cheek bones. This is pretty pigmented so be careful how much you put on to start with.I am using light, sweeping motions up my cheek to blend the contour in. I am also taking this a little bit further up and to my temples.

6. I am now taking my Wild and Alluring Palette by BH Cosmetics (here) and using both the bronzer and blush shade. If you haven’t seen my review for this palette yet, check it out here!

Anyway, as I mentioned before this is pigmented, so I am only lightly tapping each dish to get some product out and building it up as I go. For the Bronzer, I am using my large powder brush to go over my contour, up the sides of my face, the top of my forehead and under my chin (to hide my double chin :P)

7. Using the large brush again, dip lightly into the blush and place on the apples of the cheeks.

8. Now for highlighter. I always used to hate any part of my face being shiny, but as the trend is becoming more popular, I gave it a try and I am obsessed. Here I am using my Carli Bybel Palette (here) and mixing the lightest highlight shade with the second lightest shadow. The reason I do this is because the second lightest shadow has INSANE pigment, but I need it lightning up just a little as my skin is fair.

First, taking my contour brush- I am placing a small amount on the high point of my cheeks. This just finishes off the cheeks really well. Next I am taking a thin brush, and drawing a line all the way down my nose, and then adding a small dot to the tip of my nose. I blend this in with my finger. Taking the same brush, I am highlighting my cupid’s bow, inner corner of my eye and my brow bone. This step just brightens up the whole face.

9. You could just add some mascara at this point and be ready to go, but I want to go a little further- this is a summer glow look after all! Taking my Chisel Cheeks medium brown- I am going to just fill in the crease of my eyelid (using a real techniques brush- here). I am also taking the lightest colour and painting my whole lid, to act as a base.

10. Taking my Wild and Alluring Palette again, I am just going to use these 2 colours:

gold

The combination of these colours just gives a beautiful gold/ copper look to the eyes which I think is incredibly flattering at this time of year.

11. Now that everything but the mascara is on, I am setting the face with my Avon Makeup Setting Spray (here). I never set my face after mascara, because I just find that it loosens the mascara and it is more likely to transfer to the eyelids.

12. Finally, we are going to finish our look with the lashes. Here I am using a Tinted Mascara Primer by Benefit (here) on my upper and lower lashes, and then using my Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara (here) on the upper lashes and the outer corner of my lower lashes.

That’s it! This look took between 10-15 minutes to achieve, so it’s perfect for an every day glowing look for the summer time. Let me know what you think in the comments!
