My Skincare Routine

I have really oily skin, so finding products which prevent spots without drying out my skin is a big deal. I have been trying many products over the years to try and find the right balance; and i think I’ve finally cracked it.

Today i want to share the products that i use for my skin and tell you a little about their benefits.

Main Routine

Simple Face Wipes

Sometimes, if I know I have a lot of makeup on, or if I am wearing a smoky eye or winged liner- I will wipe the bulk of my makeup off before I get into the shower. However, if not, I do this step when I get out of the shower- before applying a cleansing lotion.

Simple Foaming Cleanser

I always struggle to find a good face wash, because they are either too fragranced for my sensitive skin, or they simply don’t work too well. This is a great wash for those of you with oily skin because it is gentle and doesn’t contain any alcohol which dries the skin out and causes oil production. This is gentle and foams up really well, and i do find that it even works to remove makeup in the shower too. I use this once or twice a day on average.

St Ives Blemish Fighting Apricot Scrub

If you have read my blog before, you’ll know that this is my holy grail of facial scrubs. Check out my January Favourites for a full review. This scrub is just perfect. It smells great, it’s cheap and it’s super effective. Rather than using plastic beads as exfoliant, it uses crushed up corn meal. I find it’s best to use this every 2-3 days, before using the face wash. This product saved my skin as a teenager, and it remains my favourite scrub of all time!

Simple Purifying Cleansing Lotion

I know it may seem a bit extreme to cleanse my face multiple times, but it’s honestly the best thing to do to keep your skin healthy and happy. Simple is my favourite skin care brand, I have always used it. My first skin care products were simple, and my Nanna used to buy me them for Christmas every year without fail. I use this morning and after a shower.

Simple Smoothing Toner

Toner is a step that can often be overlooked in the skincare routine, but it is very important. As cleansers contain a lot of alkaline ingredients, the pH of your skin ends up too high once you have cleaned it. The purpose of toner is to balance the pH of your skin and bring it back to normal, as well as offer an extra cleansing step to your routine. It is gentle and refreshing, and tightens your pores in preparation for moisturiser. I use this morning and after a shower

Simple Light Moisturiser

This is the final step in my skincare routine in the morning and after having a shower. This is not greasy at all, it soaks in really quickly and leaves the skin feeling refreshed and awake. Remember to moisturise your neck too!

Simple Night Cream

Every night before I go to sleep I apply this cream. It’s thick, non-greasy and lasts all through the night. It has even helped to solve the dark circles under my eyes which is a must!

E45 Intense Recovery Body Lotion

Whether or not I have bothered to shave my legs (more often not), I always apply a liberal amount of this lotion to my legs as I step out of the shower. This is essential for me because my legs are so dry!

Once a Week…

NSpa Skin Glow Mud Mask

Every Friday or Saturday I try to use this face mask. It is so important if you wear makeup all the time to have a deep cleanse once a week. This just get’s rid of any lingering debri and dirt, and penetrates deep into the pours to draw out infection and spots. This mask in particular also leaves the pores lovely and tight. I usually do this as I get out of the shower and my skin is still a little warm, to allow for the mask to penetrate deeper into the pores. I apply this with a foundation brush and it takes approximately 10 minutes to set. I then use a clean face towel to wash it off.

Lush Lip Scrub- Mint Julips

As I have discussed before in my April Favourites: this scrub smells amazing! I am really bad at remembering to look after my lips properly, and this leads to chapped, dry lips that are just down right awful. So, I bought this as an experiment, and it’s the best thing I ave ever bought for my lips. Once a week, I use this whilst I’m in the shower, scrubbing in circles gently for a few minutes and then rising it off.

I then apply my Chainbridge Honey Farm Lip Balm. I bought this from the actual farm whilst on holiday for my 21st birthday last year, and I love it. Alternatively, I sometimes also use Palmers Cocoa Butter Lip Balm, which I also absolutely love and is what I have go on my lips right now.
