‘A gunshot. Piercing through the sky like lightning, was the only sound that marred an otherwise perfect landscape…’- Imogen Clegg, 2014
Do you ever just look at something and instantly feel a moment of inspiration? It could be something as simple as a rosebush, as lush as a meadow, or as peaceful as a countryside sunset. Well, when I visited Orrest Head for the first time in 2014, those words above rattled around in my head instantaneously, it was very much a Eureka moment. I immediately opened my phone and typed the sentence into my notes, and I still haven’t used it up to this day.
Alfred Wainwright had a similar feeling…
Orrest Head is small, understated and gives a full 360 degree view of the surrounding towns and mountains. It is located in Windermere, at the top of the hill as you get into the main town. It is stunning, breathtaking and truly awe-inspiring. I don’t think there’s much need for me to say anything else, so I will let the photos do the talking…

Photos cannot do this place justice enough, you have to see it for yourself to get the full impact. I would suggest taking a sunset trip, with a flask of hot chocolate and a camera, you’ll want it!
