5 Ways to Pamper Yourself When You’re Ill

It’s May, and as always at this time of the year- I’ve come down with a cold. I’ve spent the past 5 days feeling very sorry for myself- with no energy, no appetite and clogged up sinuses. I was having a particularly bad day yesterday because I came back to work after having a few days in bed, and it killed me. Having an office job might have some advantages- but when you’ve got a headache and can barely look at the computer- the day quickly becomes a chore.

Anyway, last night I had had enough of feeling sickly and achy, so I decided to have an impromptu lazy pamper session- with the energy my body would afford me at the time. Honestly, once I was done pampering myself, I felt ten times better. And I woke up this morning feeling a little more optimistic on the day ahead. Here’s what I did to make myself feel better…

    1- Apply a Face Mask

As if my body isn’t punishing me enough already- I’ve come out with a few really painful spots on my forehead. I was hoping that applying a face mask would help clear my skin, but also relax my facial muscles and relieve my headache a little. And because I was feeling extra lazy, I applied this about 20 minutes before getting in the shower so that I didn’t have to wash it off afterwards. I use the NSPA Skin Glow Mud Face Mask. I love this one because it doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin but you can really feel the tightness in your skin afterwards.

2- Apply a Hair Mask

I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone here and apply both my hair and face mask before my shower, to save messing about afterwards. I always like to apply my hair masks to dry hair, because I feel like it gets right into the strands and gives a deeper treatment. I used the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle (although I left this one for 15 minutes)

3- Hot and Steamy Shower

Although the idea of lying in the bath might be more relaxing, I didn’t have the energy or patience to run one. Also, I think there’s just something that’s better about being in a cubical filled with steam- it really gets right into the sinuses. I took my time in here to shave, shampoo, condition, exfoliate and wash my face- and by the time I got out I felt fresher than I have done for days.

4- Wash the Mouth

This might sound a little obscure, but I feel like when you are ill, your mouth always feels dry and stagnant. So I took a few minutes just to brush, floss and rinse my mouth out, and felt much fresher after.

5- Wrap Up Warm

Finally, once I moisturised my face and legs, and applied some serum to my hair- I wrapped up in my favourite pyjamas, some fluffy socks and a dressing gown- and sat in bed watching YouTube Videos.

If you are feeling down in the dumps this week, or you have a cold like me, I recommend just taking a small portion out of your day to make yourself feel relaxed, clean and comfortable. It makes the world of difference, I promise!
