Hi Everyone!

Today I want to take the time and give you my honest review of the new Fantasy Romance novel Enshrined, written by Kay Bennson. As you have seen with the above blurb of this novel, it is a tale of adventure, pain, and romance. I am happy to be teaming up with Writerly Yours and a whole host of bloggers who also taking part in this book tour. Before I get started on reviewing this book though, I would like to introduce you to the Author, Kay Bennson.

Meet the Author

Kay Bennson is from Northwestern Connecticut where she lives with her husband. She doesn’t remember a time where she wasn’t writing stories (in fact, some of her best ideas were forged in high school classes and at part time jobs). When she isn’t writing, she is a competitive Irish Dancer. Enshrine is her first novel.

I was very impressed to learn that this was her first novel, it’s incredibly well written, thought provoking and action packed. I must admit that I may be a little biased because this is my favourite genre to read!

The Book

First of all, I’d like to comment on how beautiful this front cover is. The photography, the clothes and of course the model herself… stunning.

He tucked a lock of her cinnamon hair behind her ear. “I will be your husband, that’s why you came into my life. To be my chosen one. My Wife.”

The first thing i want to talk about is the character in the book called Dayton. He’s a total psychopath. And I don’t just mean in the cruel, punishing serial killer kinda way… he’s totally insane. Throughout the first section of the book, I was conflicted and confused about what to think about this Mad King. Was he as bad as he seemed? Or was it just a huge misunderstanding. I expected to see Sage walk into his life and teach him how to love- in a very Beauty and the Beast sort of way. I was pleasantly surprised that this wasn’t run like all the other stories out there, and when Jonathan Kreider waltzed into the picture the whole story took a U-Turn from what I expected.

He was a sight, looking like more of an assassin or warrior than many of the devoted men in the room. But it wasn’t his weapon arsenal that had Sage transfixed. 

It was the fact he wore a hood an the shadows covered most of his face.

Jonathan Kreider is a character I loved instantly. From the first moment he stepped onto the page, I was smitten. Kay did such a good job at writing convincing characters, getting you to really connect with them in a beautiful way, and that takes a lot of talent.

Another element I really enjoyed about this book was the way she flicked POV from one character to the next, without making things confusing to read. It flowed seamlessly and didn’t detract from the story for a second.

Kay also manages to compel us with another love story alongside this one, of Sage’s servant and Dayton’s medic. I came to love these characters just as much Sage and Jonathan throughout the story.

I do wish I had learned a little more about Dayton’s past in this novel because his character was very intriguing and complex, however, the story was still very well orchestrated.

The only thing I will pick at, and this may be just because I’m a redhead. But Sage is described at the beginning of the book as having Auburn hair, which is a shade of red just a touch darker than my own, but then for the rest of the book, she is described as having brown hair. Just my personal opinion, but i had to try and find something to complain about in the book!

I honestly cannot fault the writing, plot line and emotional depth of this novel. It’s beautifully set, written and directed. I loved this book.
