I don’t know about you, but here in Manchester it’s difficult to believe we’ve hit May already, with hail storms and icy mornings frequenting us Brits at the moment, it’s crazy to think summer is just around the corner. But luckily, it seems like a heat wave is about to hit our little island so hopefully we can embrace that summer feeling a little bit in the coming weeks!
Make a Fruit Bowl
This might seem like a strange thing to do to get into a summery mood, but honestly it works! Fruit is the ultimate summer time food, as it’s cooling and refreshing, and super quick to prepare. Take a little time this weekend to get yourself a few different fruits- and cut them all up into a bowl. This way, whenever you feel a little peckish you can just a grab a few spoonfuls!
Get those Shorts Out!
I know that for a lot of you, the thought of wearing shorts is a distant memory from last year. But trust me, just get them out of the depths of your wardrobe and be brave enough to wear them! You might be a little bit chilly but you’ll be feeling a lot more ready for the warm season!
Buy Ice Lollies
Ice Lollies are my favourite thing when it gets hot outside, and even just having them in the makes me super happy!
Go Shopping
The shops are full of holiday and summer clothes, so what better way to get you in the mood than to buy a few new outfits! I don’t generally like shopping but I do love to have a little browse sometimes, and right now the shops are full to the brim with seasonal fashion and accessories, it’s really too good to resist!
Dig Out the Sunglasses
This one is pretty obvious, as the days are getting longer and out friend the sun is staying out for a while longer, sunglasses are becoming a handbag and car staple. And if you really want to get into the mood, buy a new pair!
Go for a Picnic
This is my favourite thing to do in the summer time. Even if you don’t want to go for a full picnic, take some snacks and drinks to the countryside or the beach and have a relaxing, sunbathing day! It might not be hot yet, but the weather is still fairly mild, and a bit of fresh air is always a good thing!
Buy Some Sun Cream
Now that the sun is coming, you will probably get a little bit burnt. A lot of people forget about sun cream and end up tomato coloured- but this isn’t helping your skin! Stock up on lotions and after sun, keeping it in your bag all day- and if the sun does rear it’s shiny head, you won’t have to worry!
Book a Holiday
What can be better than planning a holiday? The mere thought of lying on a sandy beach, or climbing a mountain just makes me super excited. I’ve never been abroad though, so my holidays usually consist of a week in Wales or the Lake District, but even so, holidays are just the best, aren’t they?
Ditch the Hot Chocolates, make Cocktails (or Mocktails)
One of my favourite things to get me in the mood for summer is making different drinks. Most of the time they are Mocktails- a mixture of 2 or 3 different fruit juices and tonnes of ice. Honestly, it’s so refreshing and you can get really creative! I will be sharing some drinks recipes later in the year 🙂
Sandals (without the socks!)
Now, we have all known someone who has committed the cardinal sin: wearing socks with sandals *shock, horror!* Anyway… I personally think that wearing sandals or flip flops is a sure fire way to get yourself prepared and in the mood for the summer. I live in flip flops in the summer time, and I love the feeling of my feet not being confined to shoes and thick boots. So, dig out those sandals and get strutting!
I would love to know what things you do to get in the summer spirit, let me know in the comments below! 🙂
Commenting all the way from South Africa! Over here we are entering the winter season now, but will be sure to check out this post in a few months. 😛 Haha
Haha, we’ve only just seen the first signs of sun here in the UK!
All good ideas and I’m looking forward to the Summer already with this mini heat wave we’ve been having!
I know! I just hope it stays like this after the week is up!
I’m loving this warm weather at the moment, already got my sunglasses out! Not quite ready to get my legs out though x

Haha I’m the same! I braved wearing a dress today but the tights are still on x
Long skirts are my saving grace on days like this. Covered legs but not completely covered!
